The Multi-Agency CIO Advisory Council (MAC) Standards Subcommittee has formed a Wireless Standards Working Group to research, develop, and recommend state standards for wireless technology.

Chaired by Jim Cunningham of the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation, the working group is chartered with investigating areas where state wireless standards could provide enterprise benefits to the state.

Potential benefits include better security, consistent implementation and management, interoperability, and best practices.  The working group, comprising 21 technology professionals from 15 state agencies and one state university, held its initial meeting on June 5, 2006. The working group hopes to complete its recommendations by December 2006.
