Q. What are the primary functions of Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) and how do you contact them?

A. The Enterprise Project Management Office currently has three primary responsibilities:

  • Project Monitoring and Reporting: To monitor large complex IT project in the state.  This is accomplished through agency reported project status to the EPMO which feeds into a project dashboard report for the State of Ohio CIO.
  • Project Management Competency: the EPMO facilitates a state PM certification program for state employees.  This program is currently being re-evaluated.
  • Project management methodology: the EPMO offers a state project management methodology (Project Management Community of Practice-PMCOP).

Q. What is the Project Management Community of Practice (PMCOP) and how is it accessed?

A. The Project Management Community of Practice (PMCOP) is the state of Ohio’s project management methodology.  It is based on the Project Management Institute (PMI), Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and was developed in partnership with PM Solutions.  Because the information in PMCOP is licensed information, it is not freely available on the internet, however, state of Ohio employees are welcome to use the information contained in the PMCOP by obtaining user id and password.

The PMCOP is a comprehensive project management methodology that guides the project manager and team through all project management activities during the entire project lifecycle.  It includes items like project checklists and project deliverable templates.  For more information on PMCOP, take the tour located at http://www.oit.ohio.gov/IGD/pdfs_other/PMCOP-Tour.pps.

Q.  What project management training programs and / or certifications are offered by the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO)?

A.  The EPMO has offered a state of Ohio PM Certification program that was based on Project Management Professional (PMP) preparation courses with some state of Ohio practices built in.  This program is currently being re-evaluated.  If you are a state employee, who is interested in participating in this program, please contact the EPMO to be added to our mailing list.  As details about the program are worked out, this contact list will be one method of communicating the new program to interested parties.  OIT.EPMO@oit.ohio.gov

 

Q.  What projects are monitored by the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) and who are they reported to?

A.  The EPMO monitors and reports on large complex state of Ohio IT projects for the state CIO.  The process for selecting which projects to monitors is continually evaluated and updated.  Once projects are selected agencies are notified by the EPMO that their project(s) will be monitored and the agency will be provide a standard format for reporting project status to the EPMO on a monthly basis.  The information that is reported to the EPMO is reviewed and rollup into a dashboard report for the state CIO and OIT leadership.  The evaluation process for fiscal years 2008 and 2009 is currently under review.  If your agency has questions about this process, please contact the EPMO at: OIT.EPMO@oit.ohio.gov

 

Q.  What is the Application Management Portfolio and how does an agency access it?

A.  The Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) host the Application Management Portfolio, which is an inventory of all the state IT applications and related information, hosted in Microsoft Project Portfolio Server.  The Application Portfolio is updated in conjunction with the agency planning cycle or at the discretion of each agency.  This Application Portfolio Management is only available to a few individuals at each agency due to license restrictions.  If your agency is interested in learning more about the Application Management Portfolio, please contact EPMO at: OIT.EPMO@oit.ohio.gov
