Operations provides 24 x 7 tape services for mainframe customers as well as a help desk to support these customers.
Mainframe Tape Services include magnetic media data storage on 18-track, 36-track and high-density recording tape hardware. Operations staff support robotic retrieval and auto loading hardware as well as inventory control, offline and offsite storage of tape data.
In addition to magnetic media data storage, Operations staff maintain and support Mainframe Virtual Tape Services. Virtual storage is a reliable tape management solution that uses virtual tape technology to optimize batch processing and allow for better tape utilization. Data is stored temporarily on a Direct Access Storage Device (DASD), where the data can be accessed more quickly than if it were sent directly to tape.
The Enterprise Computing Help Desk provides support, 24 x 7, for customers using the IBM mainframe as well as public requests for licensure information. Analysts staff the help desk and provide customers with the interface necessary to efficiently process their jobs on the IBM mainframe. Customers requesting public information are guided through the process for ordering information, manipulating data and sending payment.
IBM Mainframe and public information customers call 466-HELP (4357) or toll-free 1-800-255-6362. Public information customers may fax their written requests to 614-728-5253 or email pirt@ohio.gov
