Unix Systems Services
Unix Systems Services provides the following services:
AIX Systems Services
The AIX Service provides installation, maintenance, support and administration of the AIX operating system software. Hardware installation, maintenance, and support are also provided. This enables customers to develop applications and/or databases without incurring the cost of setting up and maintaining an operating system environment. Additionally, all of the systems are connected via Storage Area Network (SAN) to ISD’s Tier 1 or Tier 2 disk storage, which affords extremely reliable and high-speed disk access, as well as additional storage capacity on-demand. All systems are provided backup and recovery services by Open Systems Tape Services. Systems are housed at the State of Ohio Computer Center or the State Office Tower, and both locations provide a high degree of physical security.
Linux Systems Services

Tier 1 Services
Enterprise storage provides a fully redundant Storage Area Network (SAN), which includes SAN administration, disk storage administration, hardware maintenance and support. Disk storage devices are enterprise level RAID devices and are capable of handling most hardware platforms and operating systems, including UNIX, z/OS, VMS, Windows.
Tier 2 Services
Non-enterprise storage provides Storage Area Network (SAN) connectivity, which includes SAN administration, disk storage administration, hardware maintenance and support. Disk storage devices are RAID devices and support Open Systems platforms, including Windows, AIX, Solaris, and Linux.
Open Systems Tape Service
Another service performed by Unix Systems Services staff is backup and recovery of all open systems platforms within ISD as well as tape management. The Open Systems Tape Service uses the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager software. Staff provides 24 x 7 system availability as well as disk storage administration, technical support, backup and recovery services, hardware maintenance and support 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
