Network Appropriate Use

The network services provided by SDD Unified Network Services are
for use by State of Ohio agencies and organizations, and State
of Ohio programs. Unified Network Services will not be provided to private
organizations (profit or non profit) or state programs supported
by private organizations (i.e. freenets supported by private
organizations).
Any illegal use of the services provided by Unified Network Services
will be reported to the Department of Administrative Services
General Legal Counsel (DAS General Counsel). DAS General Counsel
will report any illegal activity to the appropriate law enforcement
entity.
Non-transport packets, such as DNS queries, SNMP packets and
ICMP packets are necessary for efficient and effective networking.
However, when these packets are used in excess, network performance
for all customers may be affected. Therefore excessive DNS and
SNMP packets will be filtered at the source to ensure optimal
network performance for all DAS customers.
DNS transfers from, and SNMP polling to other customers' equipment
is inappropriate unless both parties have agreed to the transactions
in advance. Customers are free to negotiate DNS and SNMP agreements
with any other customer of Unified Network Services.
